The food grade market for tank containers comprises a small portion of the overall industry.

The percentage of tank containers in use for food grade shipments is estimated to be about ten to fifteen percent of the global tank container fleet. Despite this small percentage there are several diverse sectors of the food grade market for tank containers :

Wine and Spirits – 24000 and 26000 liter capacity tank containers are commonly used for shipment of wines from California, Chile, South Africa and France and potable alcohols and liquors from Scotland, England, USA, Russia, Korea, Japan and other countries. Our tank containers are some of the lowest tare weight containers available in the world allowing shippers to maximize their load quantities.

Edible oils – A variety of tank container capacities are used for shipment of palm oil, olive oil, sunflower and fish oils.

Juices – orange and apple juices are the most commonly transported juice products in tank containers. 24000 or 26000 liter capacity tanks allow shippers of juices to take advantage of bulk transportation cost savings.

Milk – recent advances in thermal insulation and refrigeration systems have allowed for the intercontinental transportation of dairy products in bulk quantities in tank containers.

Beer – beer has been transported in tank containers for many years. Brewers and distributors of beer require very specific and specialized tank containers.

Phosphoric acid – phosphoric acid used in food production requires food grade containers. Due to the high density of this product very small capacity containers must be used.

Eurotainer has been providing equipment to the food and beverage industries for many years. Our ability to provide specialized equipment, sometimes uniquely designed to fit our customer’s requirements, has set us apart from the competition in this market.

Eurotainer has designed and built tank containers that allow our customers to take advantage of the economics of shipping in bulk quantities for food grade products that in the past have only been moved in small package quantities. Our tank containers have allowed our customers to move their bottling and consumer packaging operations to other locations that deliver total lower supply chain costs. Our equipment has allowed customers to expand their customer base to new regions and new markets.

Eurotainer maintains a separate fleet of tank containers for our food grade service.

A tank container used for the transport or storage of a non-food grade product will never be used for food grade service. These fleets are separate and are managed separately as detailed in our ISO 9001 certified procedures. In fact most of our food grade tank containers are brand new and commonly purpose-built for a specific food grade project.
